Research Fellow
(Dynamics and Control of Very High Capacity Hard Disk Drives)
About project
One of the objectives is to study the use of piezo-electric actuator for the data access mechanism of future generation, very high capacity hard disk drives (HDD). Current HDD designs that are based on a single-stage or dual-stage rotary actuator face a number of performance limitations. With data density in the terabit/in2 regime and tracking accuracy in the sub-nanometer range, the major challenge will be to overcome the dynamic problems of the HDD, including track mis-registration, fluid-structure interaction, shock and vibration.
Requirements
Master or fresh PhD with experience in the design and built of piezo-electric actuators
Prior experience in hard disk drive will be an advantage.
